COUPLES COACHING

"Maree has an extraordinary ability to help people see themselves more clearly when they’ve lost sight of who they are."

Midlife is a time of endings, but it can also be a time for new beginnings.

At this crossroads, we find ourselves asking:

Who am I now? What do I want?

But when we're in a relationship, we also need to ask:

Who are we now? What do we want?

Midlife asks us to reinvent ourselves.

A relationship has to be able to accommodate that

reinvention too.

We need to be able to go within, do our own work, change and reinvent, without necessarily having to

leave the relationship to do it.

My work with couples is about creating the space for both people to do that. You each do your own work with me. Then we bring it together and look at you together.

We clear what's not working.

The resentment, old grievances, assumptions, old roles and the beliefs we've created about each other and our relationship.

Sometimes the relationship itself needs to end. Sometimes it's the old version of the relationship that needs to end, creating the opportunity for something new

REALATIONSHIPS FALL APART

There may have been infidelity, resentment, vicious arguments or years of withdrawal.

You might hate each other. You might want to leave.

You might not know how to leave.

Or you might simply have lost each other.

IT CAN FEEL LIKE A NIGHTMARE

Conflict or distance.

Pulling away rather than coming together.

Resentment, jealousy, meanness.

Grievances that haven't been aired and cleared.

We become fixed in our ideas about each other.

He doesn't communicate.

She'll never change.

We aren't affectionate people.

Money has always been our problem.

Sex isn't important to us anymore.

We can't talk without fighting.

Midlife is a crisis.

A turning point.

A rite of passage.

At this crossroads, we're asking:

Who am I now? What do I want?

As in all natural forms, chaos is the precursor to creation.

THE 3 OF US

But there are three things in the relationship:

you, me and us.

We need to ask: Who are we now?

What do we want?

Midlife asks us to reinvent ourselves.

A relationship has to be able to accommodate

that reinvention too.

The problem is that we don't always allow each other to change. We hold each other to the past.

We create harsh rules about who the other person

is and what our relationship is.

I know what you're like.

This is the way it is.

We can separate and reinvent, and many people do.

But sometimes it isn't necessarily the relationship itself that needs to end.

It may be the old roles, old contracts, old grievances, old assumptions and old identities.

MY WORK WITH COUPLES

Isabout creating the space for

both people to do their own work.

You each do your own work with me.

We look at who you are now and what you want.

We give each other permission to change and reinvent.

Then we come back together and work out who you are together and what you want to create together.

We clear what's not working, including the coupled limiting beliefs you've created about yourselves, each other and the relationship.

It's not just about what you're going to do differently. It's about how you want to think, how you want to feel and who you want to become.

You doing you.

Me doing me.

Me loving you doing you.

You loving me doing me.

US

Loving who we are when we come together.

MAREE WHITE | PRIVATE COACH |  MENTOR | STRATEGIC THINKING PARTNER

I acknowledge and honour the Wadawurrung People and the Guilijan and Gadubanud Peoples of the Eastern Maar, the traditional custodians of the land we now call the Surf Coast Shire.

I deeply appreciate the unique spiritual and material connection that the first peoples have with the land and water, encompassing the trees, rocks, hills, valleys, creeks, rivers, and the ocean of the Surf Coast and hinterland.
